A Warning about Prozac and Ultram By John Daniels of Simply Conservative A warning to anyone that is on Fluorxetine (aka Prozac). A few months ago I hurt my back and was put on pain killers while I healed. My orthopedist, not wanting me to be on a narcotic for an extended period, prescribed me Ultram. She mentioned that there might be an interaction and to check with the pharmacist. On that note I googled both drugs and found out that the reaction was not only bad it was deadly. It causes a condition called serotonin storm which can be fatal. When I asked my pharmacist she refused to prescribe it but even she didn't hesitate until I brought up the possible interaction. So, the lesson here is always be your own advocate. Doctors are busy people who can make mistakes. With tools such as Google its extremely easy to look up any drug that you are prescribed. Take the time to do it for your safety, just don't play the hypochondriac game afterwards.
